PGA Legends Pro Am

08 December 2023

“The fairways and clubhouse at Ashgrove Golf Club were buzzing with excitement on Wednesday, the 6th of December, as we hosted the PGA Legends Pro-Am event. Our course proved to be no walk in the park, even for the seasoned pros, with a nail-biting three-way tie for first place among Craig Goodall, Chris Hillingsworth, and Martin Peterson – all finishing at an even par.

A whopping 60 professionals, along with 93 amateurs, took on the challenge, turning our lush greens into a battleground of skill and camaraderie. The highlight of the day came from our own AGC member, John Keast, who kicked off his round on the 3rd hole with a casual hole-in-one using his trusty hybrid. With a birdie on the 4th, he was three under par after just two holes, leaving his professional playing partner (who had lipped out for an ace on the 3rd!) questioning the legitimacy of the 12 handicap on the scorecard. John would take full advantage of this fast start to take out the Div 1 prize.

Big cheers also go to Rob Wrigley, who clinched victory in division 2. Behind the scenes, the real MVP of the day was none other than our long-time resident pro, Gareth Small. Not only did Gareth coordinate the event seamlessly with the PGA, but he also worked his magic to secure over $15,000 worth of sponsorships, making the entire event possible. We'd also like to extend our congratulations to Gareth for being the defending champion and finishing just a few strokes behind the winners – Brilliant effort!

A massive shoutout is due to Peter McNamara and the entire course team. The course was the talk of the day, with everyone agreeing that it had never looked better. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, Ashgrove's golf course continues to evolve and improve every day.

In the spirit of camaraderie, competition, and a fair bit of banter, the PGA Legends Pro-Am was a resounding success. Until the next round, may your swings be sweet and your putts be true!

Cheers to a fantastic day on the greens at Ashgrove!”
