Rebuilding After Devastating Floods
Rebuilding After Devastating Floods and Creating a Bright Future for Ashgrove Golf Club
In the wake of the devastating floods that struck Ashgrove Golf Club in early 2022, a ray of hope emerged as the club secured funding from the Federal and State Governments under the CRARRP scheme.
This financial support paved the way for the much-needed reconstruction of the severely affected areas of the golf course.
With the primary objective of restoring the dam capacity to pre-flood levels, the upcoming major course works are set to bring the club back to its former glory.
The club has engaged James Wilcher of Golf by Design to lead the project. Wilcher has meticulously crafted plans to rebuild the 2nd and 3rd tees, as well as the surrounding areas, utilizing approximately 6000-8000m3 of material sourced from the dams. Members can access these plans through the link provided below and find them displayed on the notice board in the clubhouse. It is important to note that the specifics of the plan are subject to change based on the volume of material obtained from the dams. The Club has also considered additional considerations such as drainage, USGA specification rebuild of tees, new paths, new irrigation systems, and meticulous shaping, trimming, and turfing. Furthermore, a new transfer line between dams will be established to ensure a smooth water supply.
Ashgrove Golf Club has appointed Golf Spectrum, a highly regarded contractor, to carry out the course renovations. Golf Spectrum recently completed successful bunkering on holes 10, 11, and 16, along with the tee rebuild on the 17th hole and the impressive 8th hole renovation. The estimated completion date is 1st September, just in time for the Club Championships. However, it is important to acknowledge that external factors like weather conditions may impact the timeline.
Throughout the course renovations, temporary tees will be put in place to ensure the safety of golfers and contractors. Depending on the progress of the works, up to three holes will undergo modifications with revised tee locations. These adjustments will temporarily transform the 2nd hole into a 110m par 3, the 3rd hole to approximately 100m, and the 4th hole into a 310m par 4. The utmost effort will be made to maintain the course at its full length for weekend play, ensuring that 18 holes are always available. The Club acknowledges and apologizes in advance for any disruptions caused by the construction but firmly believes that the end result will be well worth the temporary inconvenience.
